>>  This weekend vital for MH370 flight searching: Malaysian official

By Zhao Bochao

Malaysian acting Transport Minister Hishammudin Hussein said here Friday that this weekend would be very important for the searching for the missing MH370 flight.

“I believe this weekend is very, very important few days,” he said.

That’s because the search has been narrowed to a very small area, Hishammudin said, adding that he was informed by Angus Houston of the Joint Agency Coordination Center (JACC) that the visuals they got from the autonomous underwater vehicle, Bluefin- 21 were very clear, which made it quite easy to see the seabed.

“The next few days will be important to see what they can find, ” he said.

He said it still depends on what they would discover in the next few days. “If not, then I agree with Prime Minister Abbott ( that the search will enter a new phase),” he said.

That does not mean stopping the operations, but to “regroup, restrategize and see where do they go from there”, he said.

>>  China supplies engine oil to its aircraft searching for MH370

By Chen Shilei

The Chinese military has supplied 400 liters of engine oil to its aircraft which are searching for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane in the southern Indian Ocean.

A China Southern Airlines plane transported the aeroengine oil from Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou and arrived in Perth in the early hours of Friday.

Early logistic support for the Chinese aircraft can last one month, said Li Gongsheng, an officer of the Chinese air force.

Due to the uncertainty of the search mission, the Chinese air force on Sunday contacted a Singaporean oil company, which has operations in Perth, and the latter agreed to provide two batches of aeroengine oil, Li said.

But the Singaporean company informed the Chinese air force Thursday night that it only had 40 liters of engine oil for the first batch and could not provide the second batch next Tuesday.

“Engine oil is the lubricating oil to guarantee the normal operation of aeroengines — the heart of a plane,” Li said.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 carrying 239 people vanished en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8.

The Chinese air force detachment with two IL-76 planes arrived in Perth on March 22 to provide help for the multinational operation in the southern Indian Ocean.

Up to 11 military aircraft and 12 ships participated in Friday’s search in an area totalling 51,870 square km, according to Australia’s Joint Agency Coordination Center.

Chinese patrol ship Haixun 01 arrived in Albany port in western Australia Friday morning with one month’s supply.

The ship is scheduled to reach a sea area about 2,500 km away from Albany Monday midnight or early Tuesday morning.

>>  U.S. papers should help, not hurt, int’l jet hunt

By Xiong Zhengyan

While 26 countries are working to find the missing Malaysian airline MH370, leading U.S. newspapers, through their reporting, are damaging the international coalition’s efforts.

In a story entitled “In jet hunt, Chinese claims said to distract and delay,” The New York Times on Wednesday criticized China by saying “false leads slow down the investigation,” listing the country’s leads from satellite photographs to underwater signals.

Another U.S. paper The Wall Street Journal echoed NYT’s criticism, saying China had “satellite images released by mistake, questionable underwater search techniques and a drumbeat of criticism of Malaysia.”

It may be true that China’s leads turned out to be unrelated, but China is not the only country making such false leads, as a number of countries’ claims and findings have turned out to be wrong, neither should China be the scapegoat for the month-long unsuccessful joint search mission.

By saying China’s actions in the hunt for the jet are seen as “hurting as much as helping,” another NYT report on Tuesday discouraged the multilateral search mission and hurt the Chinese people.

Does the intention of these reports mean to force countries making wrong leads or with less sophisticated equipment to withdraw from the joint search? Do the papers believe only powerful countries are qualified to help with international humanitarian missions?

As most of the passengers on board were Chinese citizens, China has from the very beginning given top priority to the search.

China has never mobilized so many resources for a search as it has for MH370. Take the equipment involved as an example. By April 17, China had deployed 21 satellites and sent more than ten vessels and dozens of aircraft for the search, with the search area in the southern Indian Ocean totaling 678,000 square kilometers, almost twice as big as Germany.

The purpose of China’s enormous input is not to “demonstrate technological ability” as the NYT alleged, but to do its best as part of the international mission to locate the black box and find debris at an early date.

Facing the most difficult search in human history, the Chinese government has been busy coordinating with 25 other countries, only to get WSJ’s criticism saying Chinese diplomats “pressed senior leaders in capitals across Asia at times souring an atmosphere already thick with difficulties.”

China’s efforts have been widely lauded by the international community and people with vision, including Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who last week commented on “how committed China is to the search of MH370.”

The U.S. papers’ reporting, which either found faults in China’s search efforts and stirred up trouble between China and other countries or played up the “China threat”, reflected the papers’ deep-rooted prejudice against a growing China. It is also disrespectful to the 239 passengers on board.

As the international search is still going on, media organizations around the world should report facts as they are and boost the morale of people involved in the search mission rather than defame anyone and drive a wedge among partners in the search coalition.

>>  China Malaysia’s most trustworthy friend: Malaysian PM

By Zhao Bochao

China is the most trustworthy friend of Malaysia, and Malaysia’s ruling United Malays National Organization (UMNO) would like to continuously deepen its cooperation with the Communist Party of China (CPC), said Malaysian Prime Minister and UMNO President Najib Razak here on Friday.

During a meeting with Hu Chunhua, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial CPC Committee, Najib expressed his gratitude to the Chinese side for its strong support in the handling of the missing MH370 flight incident.

The foundation of the Malaysia-China relationship is solid, he said, adding that UMNO would like to continuously deepen its cooperation with the CPC and promote the friendship between the two peoples.

Hu said the China-Malaysia relations have developed in a healthy and stable way since the establishment of their diplomatic ties 40 years ago.

He hoped that the two sides could grasp the opportunity of the construction of a maritime silk road in the 21st century to deepen their cooperation in all areas, strengthen the association between the two countries’ ruling parties, and push the China-Malaysia ties to develop further.

Hu also said that China would like to keep its cooperation with Malaysia in searching for the missing plane in full strength.

On the same day, Hu Chunhua also met with former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, Minister of Defense and acting Minister of Transport Hishammuddin Hussein and UMNO secretary- general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor. He also attended the “China ( Guangdong)-Malaysia Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference.”

>>  Search resumes with nothing found by Blufin-21: JACC

By Wang Xiaoshu

A total of 11 aircraft and 12 ships will assist in Friday’s search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, and the autonomous underwater vehicle, Bluefin-21 has commenced mission five, the Joint Agency Coordination Center (JACC) confirmed in its latest update on Friday.

According to the JACC, overnight Bluefin-21 completed another mission in the underwater search area and has commenced mission five. Bluefin-21 has searched approximately 110 square kilometers to date.

“Data analysis from the fourth mission did not provide any contacts of interest,” the JACC confirmed.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has planned a visual search area totaling approximately 51,870 square kilometer, across three areas, for the search operation on Friday, when weather forecast is isolated showers and south easterly winds.
